Planning when focus is hard

Planning ideas for ADHD brains

If traditional planners have never stuck for you, you're far from alone. Many people with ADHD find that planning works better when it's fast, visual, short and forgiving. Here are practical ideas that often help, and how Louryx supports them. Everyone is different, so keep what works for you and skip the rest.

1. Capture everything, fast

Thoughts arrive at inconvenient moments. If writing one down takes more than a few seconds, it's gone. Keep one place for everything and make adding to it nearly effortless.

In Louryx you type a task the way you'd say it (“dentist Tuesday 2pm”) and it's scheduled. Quick add is one tap from every screen, and you can share text from other apps straight in.

2. Keep today's list short

A long list can make it hard to start anything at all. Choose the few things that matter today and let the rest wait somewhere you trust. A short list you finish feels very different from a long one you don't.

3. Make time visible

Time can be hard to feel. Seeing the day as blocks on a timeline, with a line for “now”, can make it easier to judge what fits and to notice when a task is about to start.

In Louryx, switch Today to “By time” to see your day that way, and add gentle reminders a few minutes before a task begins.

4. Plan for the energy you have today

Some days have more in the tank than others. Planning for your energy, not an ideal version of yourself, makes the plan more likely to happen. On lower days, start with something small and quick; momentum often follows.

Louryx asks how your energy is in the morning. On a low day it suggests lighter tasks first and offers to move demanding work to another day; it never moves anything without asking.

5. One thing at a time

Seeing everything at once can be overwhelming. Narrow the view to the next step only: one task, a clear “done” button, and permission to say “not now”.

Calm focus in Louryx shows just your next step, with a gentle timer and an optional breathing guide. You can mark it done, set it aside for now, or move it to another day.

6. Drop the guilt from the system

Planners that punish missed days are easy to abandon. Look for one that forgives. In Louryx, tasks you didn't get to wait under “From earlier” instead of turning red, habit streaks have rest days and freezes, and after a break your progress counts as “Back on track” rather than starting over at zero.

  1. Keep one list, and capture into it the moment a thought arrives.
  2. Choose three things for today, at most.
  3. Look at the day as a timeline before you start.
  4. Work on one thing at a time.
  5. At the end of the day, move what's left to a real day, without judgment.

7. Make the planner easy to come back to

Many people find they drift away from a planner for a few days and then feel awkward returning. Make the way back as easy as possible: keep the app one tap away on your phone's home screen, turn on only the reminders you find helpful, and set quiet hours so nothing pings you at night.

A short weekly check-in helps too. Five minutes on Sunday to look at what happened, without judgment, and pick one focus for the week ahead is often enough to keep the whole system alive.

Louryx is a planner, not a medical or therapeutic tool, and nothing here is medical advice. If ADHD affects your daily life, a doctor or licensed professional can help you find the support that's right for you.
